Costa Rica is great for beginner or professional surfers. The best surfing conditions are from November to March. However; you can ride the waves almost year around.

Caribbean Coast Line

In the Caribbean Coast, you will find the strongest waves, a good bit of them are tubular and dangerous, such as Puerto Viejo (well know as Salsa Brava). Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo, Cahuita, Uvita ( great left break) and Playa Cocles are among the most visited places for surfing.

North Pacific Coast

At the North Pacific Coast, you will find really good right and left breaks. The best time for surfing here is from December to February. Playa  Negra, well known for its right point break and tubular waves,  Playa Naranjo, Playa Grande, Potrero, Estero, Junquillar, Nosara y Puerto Carrillo are well know in surfing crowds.

South Pacific Coast

In the South Pacific, the best surfing goes from April to Number; however, you can surf almost year around. You will find good left and right breaks at Playa Manuel Antonio, Playa el Rey and Dominical. Further down, there is great surfing at at Drake bay, Matapalo, Pan Dulce and Pavones (one of the longest waves in the world, with 1.3 km); however, these and other surfing spots are hard to reach and good bit of them do not have accommodations, so camping is required.

Central Pacific

The Central Pacific is characterized by its long friendly rides. The Best surfing here goes form April to November and most of the beaches have easy access. Playa Hermosa (frequent tubes and perfect waves), Boca Barranca (great long  left ride), Jaco and Damas (good rights and lefts) and Manuel Antonio are the main gathering place for surfers.
